The Thinklogical KVM extender products contain firmware that dictates their operation. Firmware updates are sent from a Windows-based PC (2000 or XP) to the extender via USB. The firmware is sent to the extender with an application (KM_Download.exe) that can read which of the visualization extenders is attached and selects the appropriate file to send. Firmware files and revision numbers are stored in ftp://ftp.thinklogical.com/visualization/updates/Firmware.zip. The KM_Download.exe application and instructions are stored in ftp://ftp.thinklogical.com/visualization/updates/KM_Download???.zip. The operation of the Keyboard, Mouse and USB-HID devices are controlled by the device and host firmware. Extender system and video operation is determined by the control processor. Unless told otherwise, it is advisable to update all of the ports on the KVM extender when performing an upgrade. Firmware Update Preparation: 1. Retrieve the downloader, firmware files, and instructions, and place them in an easily accessible directory. 2. Install the KM_Download application (by running setup.exe) and follow the firmware update instructions. 3. Unzip the firmware.zip file and place the contents in an easily accessible directory. 4. Have a copy of the update instructions and latest versions available for comparison after the update is complete.
